What silver we buy
Silverware and tea sets
Teapots, coffee pots, sugar bowls, cream jugs, trays, salvers, candlesticks and tableware in solid sterling. Weighted pieces are priced on their actual silver content.
Cutlery and canteens
Full canteens, part sets and odd pieces. A full sterling canteen is typically 2 to 4kg. Knife blades are steel and are not counted; the handles are.
Silver coins
Bullion coins and pre-decimal Irish and British silver coinage, all priced against the live London market.
Silver jewellery
Chains, rings, bangles and brooches in sterling (925), Britannia (958) or fine silver, hallmarked or not.

How to tell sterling from plate
Turn the piece over and look for small stamped marks, usually on the base, the back of a handle or inside a rim. A loupe or your phone camera zoomed in helps.
Solid silver. We buy this by weight.
- 925
- Sterling standard. 92.5% silver. The most common mark on modern and continental pieces.
- Lion passant
- A walking lion, the British sterling mark since the 1500s. Usually alongside a town mark and a date letter.
- Hibernia
- A seated female figure with a harp. The Dublin Assay Office mark, found on Irish sterling with a crowned harp.
- 958 or Britannia figure
- Britannia standard, 95.8% silver. Higher grade than sterling and priced accordingly.
Plate. Not solid silver.
- EPNS
- Electroplated nickel silver. A thin silver layer over a base metal. Not solid silver.
- A1, EP, EPBM
- Plating quality grades and electroplate on Britannia metal. All plated, none solid.
- Sheffield plate
- Silver fused onto copper, made before electroplating. Collectable in its own right, but not priced as silver.
- Silver on copper, Made in Sheffield
- Both describe plated wares. The word silver in a mark does not make the piece solid.

How much is sterling silver worth per gram?
Our sterling price per gram is published on this page and tracks the live London silver price. Britannia (958) and fine (999) silver are priced higher per gram because they contain more silver.
How much does a canteen of cutlery weigh?
A full sterling canteen is typically 2 to 4kg once the knife handles are accounted for, so even at a modest price per gram it adds up. Knife blades are steel and are not counted; weighted handles are priced on their actual silver content.
Is silver-plated cutlery worth anything?
Very little as scrap. The silver layer on EPNS and other plated items is extremely thin, so the recoverable silver is negligible. We tell you that plainly rather than make a token offer. Solid sterling is bought by weight at our published rate.
Can I sell silver that has no hallmark?
Yes. Every item is tested on an XRF analyser, so unmarked, foreign-marked and worn pieces are all priced on their actual composition. A missing hallmark never blocks a deal.
Do you buy silver coins?
Yes. Britannias, Philharmonics, Maple Leafs and other bullion coins are bought against the live London price. Pre-decimal Irish and British coinage with silver content is bought by weight.
What do I need to sell silver?
One valid photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence. In-person appointments in Dublin open in spring 2027; until then request a Bosca Óir below and sell by post. Payment is by bank transfer.
