Version 1.0, effective 31 October 2026
Terms of sale
These terms apply when you buy anything from us: an order in the shop paid by card, or a sale we agree with you by WhatsApp or email where we say these terms apply. Buying something from us means you accept them. Selling your own gold or silver to us works the other way round and is covered by the Seller Agreement and the Postal Selling Terms, not by this page.
1. Who you are buying from
Liffey Metals is the trading name of Liffey Metals Limited, a company registered in Ireland, company number 829257, registered office 6 Fern Road, Sandyford Business Park, Dublin 18, Ireland. You can reach us at andrew@liffeymetals.com or on +353 87 326 9923 (WhatsApp on the same number). “We”, “us” and “our” mean Liffey Metals; “you” means the person placing the order.
2. Prices and VAT
- Prices in the shop are set off the live London market price for the metal plus the premium shown on the product page, so they move during the day. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay, and it is fixed the moment your payment goes through.
- Prices are in euro and include Irish VAT at the rate shown on the product page. Investment gold (coins and bars that meet the Revenue definition) is exempt from VAT; gold casting grain, silver and other goods carry VAT at the standard rate. Your receipt shows the VAT.
- If a product has been listed at a price that is clearly wrong because of a mistake, we will tell you before we post it. You can then pay the correct price or cancel for a full refund.
- For deliveries outside Ireland, any import duties or taxes charged by the destination country are yours to pay.
3. Ordering and when the contract is made
- You place an order by paying on the secure Stripe payment page. We email you an order confirmation with a link to your order. That confirmation acknowledges your payment; we accept your order, and the contract is made, when we post the goods to you.
- We may decline or limit an order before dispatch, for example because the product has sold out, your payment could not be verified, or the order needs checks we cannot complete. If we decline an order you have paid for we refund it in full, straight away.
- Like every precious metals dealer we have duties under anti-money-laundering law. For larger or unusual orders we may ask you to confirm your identity before we post, and we may refuse an order if we cannot.
- You must be at least 18 to buy from us.
4. Payment
Payment is by debit or credit card through Stripe, taken in full when you order. Card details are entered on Stripe’s page and never reach us. For larger quantities we can also take a bank transfer, agreed by WhatsApp or email first; the goods are posted once the transfer has cleared. We never ask for payment by any other method.
5. Delivery
- Posted by registered, insured post within two working days of payment. Signature on delivery.
- Postage is €12.00 an order, and free on orders of €500.00 or more. Every parcel goes by registered, insured post with a signature on delivery, and we email you the tracking reference when it leaves us.
- We currently post to Ireland and the United Kingdom. The delivery address is the one you give on the payment page.
- The goods are at our risk until they are delivered to you, or to someone at your address who signs for them, at which point they become your responsibility. Ownership passes to you once we have been paid in full and the goods have been delivered.
- If a parcel has not arrived within ten working days of the dispatch email, tell us and we open a trace with the carrier. If the carrier confirms it is lost, we send a replacement or refund you in full, your choice.
6. Cancelling an order
Gold grain, coins and bars are priced on a market we do not control. Under Regulation 13 of the European Union (Consumer Information, Cancellation and Other Rights) Regulations 2013, the 14-day right to cancel a distance purchase does not apply to goods whose price depends on fluctuations in the financial market, so an order for bullion cannot be cancelled for a change of mind once you have paid.
- If you ask us before we have posted your order we will cancel it where we can. Because we fix your metal the moment you pay, we may deduct from the refund any fall in the market price of the goods between your payment and the cancellation. We tell you the figure before you decide.
- For any product whose price does not depend on the metal market (the product page says so) you have 14 days from the day you receive it to cancel and return it in its original condition, and we refund the price and standard postage within 14 days of getting it back.
7. Faulty, damaged or wrong goods
Everything we sell must match its description and be of the quality you are entitled to expect under the Consumer Rights Act 2022. Nothing in these terms takes away those rights.
- Check your parcel when it arrives. If it is damaged, or the contents are not what you ordered, email us within two working days with photos of the packaging and the items, and keep everything as it came.
- We will arrange and pay for the return by insured registered post and, as you prefer, replace the goods or refund you in full, including the postage you paid.
- Weights and purities are checked by XRF before dispatch. If you believe an item is not as described we will test it again on its return, on camera if you wish, and refund in full if we got it wrong.
8. Refunds
Refunds go back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, within 14 days of our agreeing the refund or receiving the goods back, whichever is later. They usually show on your statement within five to ten working days. We cannot refund to a different card or account. The full policy is on our Returns and refunds page.
9. Our responsibility to you
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill, up to the price you paid for the order, and we are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable or that you could have avoided. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit, and nothing in them affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
10. Complaints and the law
If something has gone wrong, email andrew@liffeymetals.com and we will answer within two working days and put it right where we can. If you are not satisfied you can contact the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (ccpc.ie) or use the Small Claims procedure of the District Court. These terms are governed by the law of Ireland and the Irish courts have jurisdiction; if you live in another EU country you keep the protection of its consumer law and may bring a claim there.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your order is the one published on this page when you paid; the version number and date are at the top.
