The most common Irish gold, priced net per gram
Sell 9ct gold in Ireland
9ct gold is 37.5 percent gold, hallmarked 375, and it is most of what Irish households own. Today we pay 34.20 euro per gram for 9ct, live as of 26 Oct, 12:03 Dublin time, net, with nothing deducted for testing. Weigh your pieces, multiply, and that is the offer you will see once the grade is confirmed by XRF.

Where is the 375 mark?
Inside the band on a ring, on the small tag by the clasp on a chain or bracelet, on the post or the butterfly of an earring, and on the case back of a watch. Irish pieces assayed in Dublin carry the 375 with the Dublin Assay Office marks beside it; British pieces carry 375 with a town mark. Older items may read 9ct or 9K. A worn or missing mark changes nothing: the XRF test reads the fineness and the piece is paid at the matching rate. Our Irish hallmarks page shows what to look for.
Why does 9ct pay less than 18ct per gram?
Because the gram contains less gold. 9ct is 375 parts per thousand; 18ct is 750. The same gram of 18ct holds twice the gold, so it is worth about twice as much, and both figures come from the same spot price. What a buyer takes out of the middle is where offers differ, which is why we publish the net figure rather than a percentage of spot.
Should I separate 9ct from other carats before posting?
You can, but you do not have to. Every piece is tested individually and the offer lists each one with its weight and grade, so a 9ct chain and an 18ct ring in the same bag are each paid at their own rate. What helps is removing anything that is not gold: watch movements, steel springs in clasps, and stones you want back, which we can also weigh out for you.
How it works
Request a free postal pack
Fill in the short form at liffeymetals.com/sell/post and verify your email. The free Bosca Óir pack arrives by An Post with a security bag, a prepaid insured return label and a one-page guide. Gold worth roughly 300 to 2,000 euro goes straight through; larger lots are handled in person in Dublin by appointment.
Post it from any An Post office
Seal the items in the security bag, hand the parcel in at any An Post office and keep the proof of postage. The label is prepaid, tracked and insured, and once An Post scans it the parcel travels at our risk up to 2,000 euro. It usually reaches us in Dublin the next working day.
We weigh and XRF test it on camera
Every piece is weighed on a calibrated scale and tested on an XRF analyser, which reads the metal's composition without damaging it. The opening and testing are recorded, and your itemised offer lists each piece, its weight, its grade and the published price per gram applied. The offer stays open for 48 hours.
Accept the price and get paid by bank transfer
Accept and we pay by bank transfer the same working day, less 12 euro return postage at cost, waived when the parcel's melt value is over 500 euro. Decline and everything comes back to you free by tracked post. One valid photo ID is checked before any payment.
Questions people ask
How much is 9ct gold worth per gram today?
Our net price per gram for 9ct is in the first table on this page and moves with the live London price through the day. It is the figure paid, per gram of the item as weighed, with no testing or handling fees. The final price is confirmed after XRF testing.
How do I know my gold is 9ct?
Look for 375 in the hallmark, often inside a ring band or on the clasp tag of a chain. Older Irish and British pieces may read 9ct, 9K or 9c instead. If there is no mark we test it by XRF and pay the rate for the fineness it actually is.
Do you pay less for 9ct because it is the lowest carat?
The rate per gram is lower because the piece contains less gold: 37.5 percent against 75 percent for 18ct. The margin we take is not higher. A gram of 9ct and a gram of 18ct are both priced off the same spot price and the same published table.
Is 9ct gold worth selling, or is it too little to bother with?
Weigh it and multiply by the rate. A few rings and a chain usually come to several hundred euro at today's prices. Our postal minimum is 300 euro per parcel; under that, message us on WhatsApp and we will suggest the best route.
Do you buy 9ct gold with stones in it?
Yes. We pay for the gold by weight with the stones weighed out where practical. Diamonds are assessed separately and either included in the offer as a separate line or returned to you. Send any certificate with the piece.
What if my piece turns out to be gold plated?
Plated and rolled gold have a thin skin of gold over base metal and carry little value. The XRF test identifies them, we tell you, and the piece is returned free. Nothing is deducted for testing.
