Sell gold, silver and jewellery to Ireland from anywhere in the EU
Liffey Metals is an independent precious metals buyer in Dublin that publishes the net price per gram it pays. From any EU country, WhatsApp us a photo and a line about what you have for a quote at today's prices, then post it to us insured and tracked: no customs forms, no duty and no import VAT inside the single market. We open it on camera, send an itemised offer the same day, and pay in euro by SEPA transfer the same day you accept.
Post your items to us in Dublin (sent at your own risk, insured and tracked; no customs forms inside the EU).
One price list for Ireland and the whole EU: net euro per gram of the item, priced off the live London market and refreshed through the day. The figure on the board is the figure paid; there are no testing or handling fees.

Pick your country
One page per member state: the live price board, how to post to Dublin from there, the national post, how you are paid, and how gold from that country is usually marked.
Ireland is the home market: the free Bosca Óir postal pack goes to every county in the Republic, and Northern Ireland posts to the Dublin PO box on the same arrangement as the rest of the EU.
Post your items to us in Dublin
Post your items to us in Dublin (sent at your own risk, insured and tracked; no customs forms inside the EU).
The free insured Bosca Óir postal pack is for addresses in the Republic of Ireland only, so from the rest of the EU you post to us directly. Message us on WhatsApp first with a photo or two and what you think the items are: you get an indicative figure off today's prices and the Dublin address before you post anything, and we agree the safest way to send it.
We give you the Dublin address with your quote on WhatsApp, along with the best way to send what you have.
How it works from the EU
Step 1
WhatsApp us for a quote first
Send a photo or two and a line about what you have and where you are. We reply with an indicative figure off today's prices and the Dublin address, and agree the safest way to send anything valuable.
Step 2
Pack it well
Wrap the items so they do not knock together, add any box, certificate or receipt that goes with them, and put nothing on the outside that says what is inside. No customs declaration is needed between EU countries.
Step 3
Post it insured and tracked
Use your national post's insured parcel service or a courier such as DHL, UPS or FedEx, insured for what the items are worth, and keep the receipt. The parcel is at your own risk until it reaches us, so send us the tracking number on WhatsApp.
Step 4
Opened on camera in Dublin, then paid
We open it on camera, weigh and XRF test every piece, and send you the video with an itemised offer. Accept and you are paid in euro by SEPA transfer the same day; decline and everything comes back to you by tracked and insured post.
Selling from the EU at a glance
- Customs and VAT
- None. Every EU member state is in the single market with Ireland, so there is no customs declaration, no duty and no import VAT on the parcel in either direction.
- Insurance in transit
- At your own risk until the parcel reaches us; insure it for what the items are worth and send us the tracking number.
- Payment
- Euro, by SEPA bank transfer to any IBAN, the same day you accept. Nothing to convert in the eurozone; outside it your bank converts at its own rate.
- The offer
- Itemised: each piece, its grade, its weight and the published rate applied. Open for 48 hours.
- If you decline
- Everything returned to you by tracked and insured post. Nothing to pay.
- In person
- Lots worth more than 1,000 euro can come to Dublin by appointment if you are travelling to Ireland; the price and the testing are the same as by post.
Selling from the EU, question by question
Can I sell gold or silver to Liffey Metals from another EU country?
Yes, from any of the 27 member states. Ireland is in the EU single market, so a parcel from Germany, France, Spain, Poland or anywhere else in the EU travels to Dublin like a domestic one: no customs declaration, no duty, no import VAT. You WhatsApp us for a quote, post the items insured, and the weighing, testing and offer all happen on camera in Dublin.
Do you send the free Bosca Óir postal pack to other EU countries?
No. The free insured Bosca Óir is for addresses in the Republic of Ireland only. From the rest of the EU you message us on WhatsApp for a quote first, then post your items to us in Dublin yourself, insured and tracked, at your own risk until they arrive.
Is the price the same as in Ireland?
Yes. There is one published price list for Ireland and the whole EU: net euro per gram, priced off the live London market and refreshed through the day. There is no testing fee and no handling charge, wherever the parcel comes from.
How am I paid, and in what currency?
In euro, by SEPA bank transfer to your IBAN, the same day you accept the offer. In the eurozone (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain, and Ireland) there is nothing to convert. If your account is in Czech koruna (CZK), Danish krone (DKK), Hungarian forint (HUF), Polish złoty (PLN), Romanian leu (RON) and Swedish krona (SEK), your bank converts the euro at its own rate; a euro account, if you have one, avoids that.
Who insures the parcel on the way to Dublin?
You do. A parcel posted from outside the Republic of Ireland travels at your own risk until it reaches us, so use an insured, tracked service and insure it for what the items are worth. Message us first about anything valuable and we agree the safest way to send it; for very large lots we talk about a courier or a visit.
Do you buy gold with foreign hallmarks, or no hallmark?
Yes. 333, 585, 750, 800, 916, French eagle heads, Italian star marks, Portuguese 19.2ct, Soviet-era 583: every piece is XRF tested on camera and priced on what the metal actually is, not on the stamp. Unmarked and broken pieces are fine.
What ID do I need?
One valid photo ID: a passport or a national identity card from any EU country, or a driving licence. We check it before payment, in line with anti-money-laundering practice, and we do not buy from anyone under 18.
Do I need to speak English?
We work in English on WhatsApp, but photos and a short line about what you have are enough to start, and a translation app on either side is fine.
What about the United Kingdom?
We buy from Northern Ireland on the same arrangement: a quote on WhatsApp, then your own tracked and insured parcel to our Dublin PO box. It has its own page. We are not buying from Great Britain at the moment.
Can I sell jewellery with the stones still in?
Yes. Send the piece as it is. We weigh and test the metal with the stones excluded and pay the published per-gram rate for it. Stones are assessed separately: we quote for them or return them to you. Send any certificate or valuation for the stones in with the piece. It travels with it and comes back with it if you decline.
Anything else: message us on WhatsApp or see the general questions.
