How we price jewellery

Tested and weighed
Every piece goes on the XRF analyser and the scale, on camera. Stones are weighed out where practical, so you are paid on the metal that is actually there.

The metal is your floor
Whatever the piece, you are offered at least our published price per gram for its metal, priced off the live London market. That figure is on this page, not decided in a back room.

Worth more as a piece? We tell you
Signed, antique or set with a good stone, some jewellery should not be melted. We flag it before you decide, and point you to where it will do better.

What jewellery we buy
Rings, chains and bracelets
Any carat from 9ct to 22ct, hallmarked or not. Worn, snapped, resized or out of fashion makes no difference to the price per gram.
Set pieces: diamonds and gemstones
Engagement rings, eternity rings, pendants and earrings with the stones still in. Send any diamond certificate with them. We test and weigh the metal, and tell you if a stone deserves a closer look.
Antique and signed pieces
Victorian, Edwardian and mid-century jewellery, and pieces from named houses, with their boxes and receipts where you have them. Some are worth more intact than melted, and we say so before you decide.
Gold watches and cases
Priced on the gold in the case, and worth more with the box and papers. Message us first about branded watches, which can be worth far more than their metal.
Silver jewellery
Sterling, Britannia and continental silver chains, bangles and brooches, bought by weight at our published silver rates.
Broken and odd pieces
Single earrings, snapped chains, clasps, findings and dental gold. Sorted and tested like everything else; nothing is too small.
Branded watches and big stones
Send us photos on WhatsApp first and we'll tell you whether it should travel in a Bosca Óir or be looked at another way.
An Bosca Óir
What is a Bosca Óir?
Bosca Óir is Irish for “gold box”. It is our free, insured postal pack: a box we post to your door with a prepaid return label already inside, so you can sell gold, silver and jewellery from anywhere in Ireland without leaving the house. Nothing to pay, nothing to arrange, and no obligation to sell.

- A sturdy box with a prepaid, tracked An Post return label already inside. Put your items in, seal it and drop it at any post office. The box is yours to keep.
- What it costs
- Nothing. The box is free, the return post is prepaid, and if you decline our price your items come back to you free as well. There are no deductions from your payment.
- Who carries the risk
- We do. From the moment the post office scans your parcel it travels at our risk, up to €2,000 of items per box. Worth more than that? Message us first and we arrange collection or a visit.
- Where we post
- Anywhere in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Over a kilo of silver, tell us in the form and we send a bigger box.
- Follow it
- Every box has its own number and its own tracking page, so you can see exactly where it is at every stage, from the day we post it to the day you are paid.

Fill in the short form on this page and we post your Bosca Óir to your door.

Fill and seal
Put your items in the box, wrapped so they do not knock together. Seal it and stick on the prepaid label from inside. Send any box, certificate, receipt or valuation in with the piece. They travel with it and come back with it if you decline.

Post it
Drop it at any post office and keep your proof of postage. From the first scan it travels at our risk.

Opened on camera
We open, weigh and XRF test everything on camera. The video is yours within 24 hours.

You get an itemised offer at the prices published on this site, fixed at the moment you accept.

Paid or returned
Accept and you are paid by bank transfer. Decline and everything comes back to you, return post free.

Selling jewellery, question by question
Do I need to take the stones out before selling?
No. Send the piece as it is. We weigh and XRF test the metal, and stones are weighed out of the calculation where practical, so a set piece is paid on the metal it actually contains. If a stone looks significant we tell you before you decide anything.
Do you buy diamond rings and gemstone jewellery?
Yes. Every piece is worth at least its metal at our published price, and that is the figure you are offered. If a diamond or a piece looks worth more than its metal, we say so plainly before you decide, so you never sell a good piece for scrap without knowing.
Do you buy watches?
Gold watches and watch cases, yes, priced on the gold in the case. Movements and straps are not gold and are not priced as such. For branded watches, message us first: some are worth far more than their case.
Is costume or gold-plated jewellery worth anything?
Very little as metal. Plated, rolled gold and costume pieces carry a negligible amount of gold, and we tell you that plainly rather than make a token offer. Anything of that kind in your box comes back to you free.
Should I send the box and paperwork with it?
Yes, please. Certificates (GIA, IGI or HRD diamond reports), receipts, insurance valuations, warranty cards and the original box or pouch all go in with the piece. They prove what it is, which is what lets us price it as a piece rather than as metal, and if you decline our price they come back to you with it. Do not post your own ID or any cash: we verify identity separately.
Can I send a whole jewellery box, mixed up?
Yes. Gold, silver and set pieces can all go in one Bosca Óir. We sort, test and itemise everything on camera, and the offer lists every piece separately so you can see exactly what each one is worth.
What do I need to sell jewellery?
One valid photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence. In-person appointments in Dublin open in spring 2027; until then you can sell by post from anywhere in Ireland. We do not buy from anyone under 18.
Do you buy jewellery outside Dublin?
Yes, from all 32 counties. The Bosca Óir is posted to your door anywhere in Ireland or Northern Ireland, you post it back from your local post office, insured and prepaid, and it is opened on camera in Dublin. The price is the same in Cork, Galway or Belfast as it is at our Dublin counter.
