Crowns, bridges, inlays: priced after XRF

Sell dental gold in Ireland

Dental gold is bought by weight after XRF testing. Crowns and bridges are alloys, not standard 9ct or 18ct jewellery, so the test sets the rate. Today our published bullion rate is 98.03 euro per gram of fine gold content and 89.89 euro per gram for 22ct, live as of 26 Oct, 12:03 Dublin time; your crowns will land on whichever grade matches their composition.

Why does dental gold vary?

A crown needs to be hard enough to bite on and biocompatible in the mouth, so dentists use gold alloyed with other metals. Older work tends to be higher gold; modern pieces may include more palladium or platinum. Two crowns from the same mouth can differ. That is normal, and why every piece is tested individually and listed on the offer with its weight and grade.

What about porcelain and teeth still in the crown?

Porcelain facings, tooth stubs and cement are not paid as gold. We remove what we can before weighing, show you the process on camera, and price the metal left. If you want porcelain fragments back, say so on the request form.

How should I pack crowns and bridges?

Put them in a small zip bag inside the security bag in the postal pack. They are dense for their size, so even a few grams adds up. Do not post dental impressions, X-rays or personal medical records; just the metal.

How it works

  1. Request a free postal pack

Fill in the short form at liffeymetals.com/sell/post and verify your email. The free Bosca Óir pack arrives by An Post with a security bag, a prepaid insured return label and a one-page guide. Gold worth roughly 300 to 2,000 euro goes straight through; larger lots are handled in person in Dublin by appointment.

  2. Post it from any An Post office

Seal the items in the security bag, hand the parcel in at any An Post office and keep the proof of postage. The label is prepaid, tracked and insured, and once An Post scans it the parcel travels at our risk up to 2,000 euro. It usually reaches us in Dublin the next working day.

  3. We weigh and XRF test it on camera

Every piece is weighed on a calibrated scale and tested on an XRF analyser, which reads the metal's composition without damaging it. The opening and testing are recorded, and your itemised offer lists each piece, its weight, its grade and the published price per gram applied. The offer stays open for 48 hours.

  4. Accept the price and get paid by bank transfer

Accept and we pay by bank transfer the same working day, less 12 euro return postage at cost, waived when the parcel's melt value is over 500 euro. Decline and everything comes back to you free by tracked post. One valid photo ID is checked before any payment.

Questions people ask

How much is dental gold worth?

Its weight in grams times our published price per gram for the fineness the XRF test finds. Dental alloys are usually high gold, often comparable to 16ct to 22ct, but the only honest figure is the test result. The table on this page shows today's rates for common jewellery grades for comparison.

Should I clean dental gold or remove porcelain before sending it?

Rinse off obvious debris if you like, but do not acid-clean or file pieces. We weigh and test as they arrive. Porcelain facings and tooth material are not gold and are discarded or returned as you prefer.

Can my dentist sell my old crowns for me?

The gold belongs to you once it is out of your mouth. Some dentists collect it for patients; others hand it back in a bag. Either way you can post it to us in the insured pack.

Is dental gold always high carat?

Usually, but not always. Older crowns can be gold alloyed with platinum, palladium or silver. The XRF reading names the composition and the offer uses the matching published rate.

Can I post dental gold from anywhere in Ireland?

Yes, in the free insured pack like any other gold, provided the lot meets the postal minimum. A handful of crowns is often enough; if not, add other gold or message us on WhatsApp.

Do you buy dental gold with mercury amalgam?

No. Silver-coloured amalgam fillings are not gold. Yellow metal crowns and inlays are what we buy.
