Paid on the gold, by carat and weight
Sell a Claddagh ring
A Claddagh ring is paid on its gold: the carat and the weight, with any stone assessed separately. Most are 9ct, and today we pay 34.11 euro per gram for 9ct, 55.24 euro for 14ct and 73.41 euro for 18ct, live as of 26 Oct, 14:15 Dublin time, net. A 4 gram 9ct Claddagh comes to 136.44 euro at that rate, confirmed by XRF before the offer.

What does a Claddagh ring weigh?
It depends on the size and the casting. A slim ladies' ring can be under three grams; a standard one three to five; a heavy gents' ring eight or more. The examples below put today's rates against those weights. Weigh yours on a kitchen scale that reads to a tenth of a gram and find the nearest row.
| Ring | Example weight | Today |
|---|---|---|
| Ladies' 9ct Claddagh, slim | 2.5 g | €85.28$95.45£71.40 |

Which carat is my Claddagh ring?
Look inside the band for the number. Irish-made rings are mostly 9ct, marked 375, and those assayed in Dublin carry the Dublin Assay Office marks beside it. Rings bought in America are usually 14ct, marked 585 or 14K. 18ct rings are marked 750. Silver Claddagh rings are marked 925 and are priced as sterling silver, which is a different page. If the inside of the band is worn smooth, which happens on a ring worn for decades, the XRF test reads the fineness and the ring is paid at the matching rate.
Does the Claddagh design add anything to the price?
Not to the metal price. A Claddagh ring is cast or stamped like any other ring and we pay for what it is made of. The design has value of a different kind: a ring in good condition may be worth more to someone who wants to wear it than its gold is worth melted, and a family ring may be worth keeping. We would rather say that plainly than have you post something you will miss. If you do sell, the figure is the published rate times the weight, nothing less.
What about the stone in the heart?
Many Claddagh rings carry a stone in the heart: a birthstone, an emerald-coloured glass, a small cubic zirconia, occasionally a real stone. The metal is weighed and priced with the stone excluded. Glass and synthetic stones have no resale value and are returned to you. A diamond or a genuine emerald is assessed on its own and either quoted as a separate line or returned, whichever you prefer. Our jewellery page covers stones in more detail.
How it works
Request a free postal pack
Fill in the short form at liffeymetals.com/sell/post and verify your email. The free Bosca Óir pack arrives by An Post with a security bag, a prepaid insured return label and a one-page guide. Gold worth roughly 300 to 2,000 euro goes straight through; larger lots are handled in person in Dublin by appointment.
Post it from any An Post office
Seal the items in the security bag, hand the parcel in at any An Post office and keep the proof of postage. The label is prepaid, tracked and insured, and once An Post scans it the parcel travels at our risk up to 2,000 euro. It usually reaches us in Dublin the next working day.
We weigh and XRF test it on camera
Every piece is weighed on a calibrated scale and tested on an XRF analyser, which reads the metal's composition without damaging it. The opening and testing are recorded, and your itemised offer lists each piece, its weight, its grade and the published price per gram applied. The offer stays open for 48 hours.
Accept the price and get paid by bank transfer
Accept and we pay by bank transfer the same working day, less 12 euro return postage at cost, waived when the parcel's melt value is over 500 euro. Decline and everything comes back to you free by tracked post. One valid photo ID is checked before any payment.
Questions people ask
How much is a gold Claddagh ring worth?
Its weight in grams times our net price per gram for its carat, which is on this page and updated through the day. A standard ladies' 9ct Claddagh weighs a few grams; a heavy gents' ring two or three times that. The design itself does not add to the metal value. The final price is confirmed after XRF testing.
Is a Claddagh ring 9ct or 18ct?
Most Irish-made Claddagh rings are 9ct, hallmarked 375, often with the Dublin Assay Office marks. Rings bought in the United States are usually 14ct (585), and 18ct (750) rings exist but are less common. Look inside the band; if the mark is worn away we test it and pay the grade it is.
Do you pay more for a Claddagh ring because it is Irish?
No. We pay for the gold by weight and carat, the same for a Claddagh as for a plain band of the same weight. A Claddagh ring in good condition may be worth more to someone who wants to wear it than its metal is worth to a buyer, and that is worth considering before you sell.
My Claddagh ring has a stone in the heart. What happens to it?
The metal is weighed and priced with the stone excluded. Most Claddagh stones are coloured glass, synthetic birthstones or small cubic zirconia, which we return to you rather than price. A diamond or a real emerald is assessed separately and quoted or returned, whichever you prefer.
Can I sell a single ring by post, or is it too small?
Our postal minimum is 300 euro per parcel, so a single light ring usually falls under it on its own. Add the other pieces you were thinking of selling, or message us on WhatsApp and we will suggest the best route for a small lot.
Should I sell an inherited Claddagh ring?
That is your call, and there is no hurry. If you decide to, the ring is paid on its gold like any other piece, and you can ask for the figure before anything travels. Our page on selling inherited jewellery covers valuations and the steps for an estate.
