Don't sell it to us
We buy metal for its melt value. Some things are worth far more than that, and we would rather tell you so than melt them. Five categories to check before you send anything.

Antique and hallmarked Irish silver
Georgian and Victorian Dublin silver often sells for several times its melt value to collectors.
A full set of Irish hallmarks, a known maker or an unusual form adds value that melting destroys.
Where to take it instead: Take it to an auction house with a silver department, such as Adam's or Whyte's in Dublin, for a free auction estimate first.

Signed and designer jewellery
Pieces signed by houses like Cartier, Tiffany or Van Cleef sell on the name, not the gold.
Even worn or dated pieces from a known maker can fetch far more than the metal in them.
Where to take it instead: Get a second-hand valuation from a specialist jeweller or a fine jewellery auction before you decide.

Gold and silver coins with collector value
Sovereigns from rare years, proof coins and pre-1900 pieces are worth a premium over their gold content.
Once melted, that premium is gone for good.
Where to take it instead: Ask a coin dealer or a numismatic society for an opinion. Bullion coins with no premium are a different matter and we are happy to quote on those.

Watches
A gold watch case is often the least valuable part. Movement, brand and originality set the price.
Vintage Omega, Rolex, Longines and similar sell well even when they are not running.
Where to take it instead: Speak to a watch specialist or a watch auction. Keep the box and papers if you have them.

Jewellery set with good stones
Diamonds over about half a carat, and fine sapphires, rubies and emeralds, are worth more than the mount.
We price the metal only, so a stone-set piece is nearly always worth more sold whole.
Where to take it instead: Have the stones assessed by an independent gemmologist, then sell the piece whole through a jeweller or auction.
Everything else
Broken, worn, unhallmarked or plain
Broken chains, single earrings, dated rings, dental gold, worn sterling and anything with no maker or story: that is exactly what we are for, and we pay a published price per gram for it.
